We open up backstage with Davidson, standing in his locker-room as he is dressed in his casual clothing. With not much in his surroundings except for a locker, shelf and white brick wall, you can only assume that this moment will be spent with the Feature Presentation, the camera and an array of words all thrown together to make what is known as a promo. William knows what the Feature Presentation can do best, because he was the one who dubbed him as the Promo Machine last year during the beginning of his FWA stint.
"I'm glad that William Rodney Mercy is shocked about me accepting his challenge that he set out on the air the other week, because while he may still be in disbelief that I accepted a match to take part in this wrestling federation one more time, there are some people that are probably not too shocked and along with that they are not too happy. Mercy said the truth in his interview on Sports Centre, because after I have kept a close eye on him for around three years now, he said it like it was; he does cash in, he does create legacies and he does get the recognition for all he does. Bringing in the masses is something that he is able to do really well and because of all that, it's what makes William earn the money he has. Everything that Mercy has to show for, don't think it's from the rich wrestling federations he takes part in... it's because of him having no fear. Fearless is Mercy, even I know that. You know how insane the guy is, throwing out multiple challenges at the same time. How many people is he wanting to wrestle at the moment? Three that I can think of. Ryan Cain, James Tsunami and myself. Knowing William, there are probably ten times more than that who he is eager to get into the ring with, but for whatever reason, he just won't say their names or throw out the challenge. But hey, he's not the kind of guy who bites off more than he can chew. He calls for the right amount that he can devour, and to be honest, three seems to be a hefty amount for him at the moment. But I'm sure that he can fit another star on his plate and swallow them whole."
Pause.
"If he wants to talk smack, he can do it all he wants to, I'm not going to get in his face about it and try to prove him wrong. I did that once before and I wound up failing, as you all know. Like he said, it was a great match and I was so close to defeating the guy, but no matter how much I threw out at him, I couldn't succeed and I couldn't get the job done. Rusty, he was, but that rust was quickly falling off with each move he connected in that ring. He seemed like a rookie at that time, but a professional rookie who just came off from a training camp and was learning a decade's worth of work in just a mere ten or fifteen minutes. It doesn't take long for him to get used to the ring again or to adapt to a new environment, Mercy has some strange thing about him that allows him to just ignore the surroundings and just fight, no matter how much odds are against him. Sometimes entering matches as the underdog, Mercy can walk out looking like he was the master of that match. He's a legend and one of these days he'll be looked upon as one of the greats to have ever stepped foot in a wrestling ring."
Pause.
"After hearing what Mercy said on the Sports Centre interview not too long ago, I'm starting to think, could this one night only match against the guy be able to heighten my career even more? Even if I lose, which the chances are great, would my career sky-rocket? William seems confident enough that it will and I'm not arguing with that. I have seen how capable William was able to turn a make-shift wrestling match into something that Dave Meltzer would rate one out of five stars... and that's good, mind you, because all that Meltzer really cares about are knife-edge chops and toe-kicks, something that FWA is very little of. This federation, and its superstars, are pure-wrestling athletes and know how to keep everybody but Dave entertained. Contrary to what William said, I'm not as motivated or as confident as I was when we first stepped toe-to-toe. I haven't felt like that in so long, but all I need is a break to get rejuvinated and refreshed. My last spur of energy is about to be used up against Mercy in our match, and after that, recharging my batteries is my top priority. I won't be answering phone-calls, I won't be looking at contracts nor will I want to watch wrestling on television for awhile. I really need to be resting for once after this and my match against Mercy is the best way to send me out of the wrestling sport for awhile. If I enjoy my break, who knows, maybe I won't lace up again. My match with Mercy could be so satisfactory, why would I want to alter with the possible end of my career? After my match against William, despite our differences, I would be glad for that to be my last match ever."
Pause.
"I don't know who made up that crap story of me leaving Fans Wrestling Alliance because the federation looked dead, because that is far from the truth. People don't seem to want to listen to my opinion, but now you have no choice but to. I didn't leave FWA, I moved on, or in the federation's proper-terms: I quit. You all remember FWA's infamous last-show, do you not? When that was days from airing, many of us had intentions to MOVE ON. I was one of those people who were planning on moving on and going on with my career, so just a few days prior to the airing of the last show, Conflict #53, I signed a contract to American Pro-Wrestling, which was recently seen and portrayed as FWA's enemy company. After winning the FWA title against Deus, I was ready to go onto the next chapter of my life. But then... BAM... out of the blue, FWA calls me up and informs me that they have enough funds to stick around for a couple more dark-eras and ratings-peaks. It was dreadful news for me because I was really looking forward to the federation coming to an end. I don't mean that in a negative kind of way, I mean that in a positive way. I remember watching FWA start its bookshelf from the days of Dingo Dundee, Nic E Dangerously and XAW then progress to JT Kash, Da Sweet Lunatic, the New Wave and so on. I was proud of how the bookshelf was ready to end and after what appeared to be the final book to end the story, the company decides to fuck everything up. Hate me for what I'm about to say, I really don't care, you know my views and opinions, so this should come as no surprise."
Pause.
"FWA basically wrote its letter, then put it in an envelope and sealed it. Afterwards, they decide to open it up and destroy the envelope and add onto it, then put all it has in addition back into that torn envelope. Therefore, fucking your image up, how is that going to make you look? Many federations have torn their envelope open and fucked themselves up because of it. British Wrestling Alliance, was one for example. Three eras it has had, and the only one that mattered of them was the second. But British Wrestling Alliance never really broke news the first time that their product was coming to an end, did they? All they did was stop calling, stop booking and stop everything altogether. No official press-release, nothing from staff and departments... it was basically no news at all. It was a hiatus, more like it, and that's the truth. Returning six months later, it was great to see. After that went on, the federation started to die and go downhill a year later and then they announced their downfall and demise, forming with this federation. When they brought it back, then what? They ruined themselves and nothing was exciting, nothing was good. Wrestling 2000? That's self-explanitory, nobody needs a story of how many times they screwed themselves up. This federation just went down the same road. Good job, you'll lead to failure and another demise... again."
Smirk. Ain't you glad I didn't say pause?
"Cocky much, William? You can't credit yourself with the sudden ratings boost when you started showing your face around here. There are a bunch of other people who we could easily say brought the ratings with them. With the return of Ryan Cain, Mr. Scarie, Lesmond and Sparrow, any one of them could be credited for what is now seemingly the success of Fans Wrestling Alliance. If it was you, however, then good job... but it's highly unlikely, so don't flatter yourself. I made a mistake, Mercy, but that mistake wasn't moving on from FWA to APW. You can say, and believe, what you want to believe but I know the truth and I know my reasons for leaving. I said them earlier, so just go listen to them until you finally understand."
Fade.
