Tired from the impressive match he had against William Rodney Mercy a few hours ago, Jesse is still worn out from the assortment of submissions and technical moves he put on show in front of thousands of people with another wrestler who knew ten times as many holds and knew how to counteract just about everything in the book. With a towel around his neck and shorts covering the lower portion of his body, he soaks up the water from his hair after the shower he had after his big match that without a doubt made him a star. He made himself proud; he did something that he was confident about doing, but not quite sure if he could have got the job done, even with a lot of arrogance on his side. Luck had nothing to do with this win, people are quite aware of what he thinks about that thing.
“If you look at the name of the pay per view that I had just wrestled on, you would clearly see two words; those two words being ‘Legends’ and ‘ReBorn’. But take a look at me after you look at the name of the event, and ask yourself – was I a legend prior to showing up to this event? No. Did I achieve anything noteworthy before stepping up to the plate and wrestling one-on-one with perhaps the Californian Superman? No. I’ll be the first to admit that just yesterday I was a nobody who still had a lot to understand about this sport and was in dire need to learn the basics. I had my fair brush with wrestlers who understood this sport and could teach the basics since January, and did I learn anything from them? Was I able to think like them in some of my matches afterwards? Yes, I was able to think like their great minds because after competing with them, I was educated more about this sport than ever before. So what gets me is that this event gives you the impression that legends from the past, possibly dead or standing solemnly by, are awaiting their resurrection at this show. My opponent, for example, was William Rodney Mercy – without a doubt a legend, and one who is still kicking. But here’s the thing – I won, I beat him. Was William brought back to life, or even born again to the wrestling world as somebody fresh and feeling more alive within? Truth is, the last time I looked at William today, he looked dead and motionless. He was lying in that ring on his back, eyes closed and the world was shut off. He didn’t hear us, he didn’t see us nor did he acknowledge us. Why? Because he was in another world after landing on his head, and in that world he was waiting to travel back to his universe where he would wake up and breathe the air that would have him gasping for breath. Nothing good happened on William’s part, he didn’t come back to life as somebody more superior or more rejuvenated – he came back to life as somebody who would be more miserable, less happy and a little bit frustrated.”
Taking a deep breath, Jesse is still thrilled about winning the biggest match of his life. He never would have imagined that he would be in this spot and feeling these kind of emotions at the moment. Suddenly, stealing that contract wasn’t so stupid after all. In fact, it might encourage new and younger wrestlers to do defiant things of the like, also.
“Legends weren’t born again, but legends were given life. It sounds a bit arrogant to classify myself as something like that, so don’t think I’m going to jump the gun and do it so soon. It’s in reservation, however – but I don’t plan on using that word and applying it to myself until a later date when it seems right and seems suitable. Remember, I’m only on the fourth month of my singles career and I still have a lot more to do. The second chapter of my career is still in the writing, and this is just the beginning of it.”
Grinning, Jesse turns around and opens the door to the locker-rooms, entering and letting the door shut behind him. The cameras fade.
