(Triple Threat)
James Tsunami vs. King Davidson vs. Superstar Joe
This has to be one of the most hotly anticipated matches of the night. Three Hall of Fame entrants will stand in the ring and do battle for the pleasure of the crowd here at the Anniversary Show. It truly has all the makings of a classic. Superstar Joe makes his comeback to a BWA ring after a couple of months away from action, likewise Davidson, although he’s been wrestling over in FWA for a little while. James Tsunami’s been ever-present in this version of BWA since its conception back in August 2005 and he doesn’t look like stopping any time soon, that’s for sure. Three men, one triple threat match, tonnes of excitement.
There’s a very apparent buzz of excitement in Wembley Arena as the camera scans around the large crowd. Many placards and banners show two of the biggest fan favourites in the BWA – Joe and Tsunami – whilst others show support for King Davidson, which is unusual given his unpopular streak when he was in the BWA. I guess these guys really do support their own when push comes to shove. As one section of the crowd starts a loud "Joe! Joe! Joe!" chant, the opening riff of "Cochise" by Audioslave sounds, sending the Wembley audience wild with cheers. It isn’t long before a very focused James Tsunami arrives on the stage and thrusts his arms into the air, before pointing to the crowd, obviously very happy to be fighting at the Anniversary Show.
Franny: James Tsunami really is a BWA institution. He’s been one of the cornerstones of the company ever since it started.
Tony: I agree. He’s a brilliant wrestler, even if he’s a bit of a big, blubbering cry baby.
Franny: Well that’s not exactly fair, is it? He’s got a lot of issues to sort out. I wonder if all the other things happening in the man’s life will affect his performance tonight. It’s certainly something worth considering, Tony.
James Tsunami strides confidently down to ringside, slapping the hands of the front row. He’s clearly a man of the people and they appreciate everything he’s done for the company. Once he reaches the ring, James slides under the bottom rope and immediately jumps up onto the turnbuckle for another huge cheer from the crowd. However, it’s not long before James’ game face is on and he shows that look of confidence that we’ve seen so many times before. If there’s going to be a non-Tsunami winner in this match then they’ll have to get through James first.
Johnny Cox: Ladies and gentlemen, weighing in at 223lbs … James Tsuuuuuuuuuuunami!
Franny: He couldn’t look better. The man’s in great shape tonight.
Tony: Well he’s certainly not going to complain of ring-rust. This guy’s been on practically every Livewire show for an entire year.
The next sound heard in the arena is Pearl Jam’s "Evenflow" signalling the entrance of one King Davidson, arguably the most outspoken and cocky wrestler ever to step foot on BWA canvas. The crowd gives the man a generous reception as he steps out onto the stage. Davidson gives a look of nonchalance and walks slowly down to the ring, giving not a high five to a soul as he does so. James Tsunami watches him the whole way down, but he doesn’t do anything at the moment. Davidson doesn’t let his eyes drift from Tsunami as he enters the ring via the steps.
Tony: Look at that man. He’s the epitome of awesomeness, Franny. If God himself was a wrestler then he’d be King Davidson. Wow…just wow.
Franny: How much did he pay you to say all of that?
Tony: Nothing. It came from the heart.
Franny: … Right.
Davidson walks around the ring with a sense of "better than you" about him. He doesn’t stop watching the movements of James Tsunami, who’s made it clear that he’s not playing games tonight. Davidson’s been wrestling just as regularly as James though, so he won’t be feeling overawed by the occasion. He takes his position on one side of the ring and waits patiently for Johnny Cox to make the announcement.
Johnny Cox: Ladies and gentlemen, weighing in at 225lbs, the current FWA Reckless Champion… Daaaaaaaaaaaavidson!
More polite applause for the Hall of Fame member as he stretches himself on the ropes. There’s just one man left to come down to the ring and judging by the deafening cheers as "In The End" by Linkin Park resonates around the audience, it looks like he’s about to appear. Superstar Joe, a man known by all who watch the British Wrestling Alliance, arrives on stage to another thunderous reception. Chants of "Joe! Joe! Joe!" start up again and the man himself raises both arms in the air and milks the applause for all it’s worth. He hasn’t been in a BWA ring for nigh-on two months and he’s aiming to prove that he’s not lost his step whatsoever.
Tony: Ugh, he’s still popular then.
Franny: A guy like Superstar Joe will be popular for as long as he’s wrestling, Tony. He’s quite possibly the biggest legend that this company has ever seen. Nobody gets the same reception as Superstar Joe.
Tony: I think it’s despicable. People should be cheering for King Davidson.
Superstar Joe paces down to ringside, making sure that every member of the front row gets their high-five. The sheer volume of noise for the man has to be seen to be believed. He fully deserves his Hall of Fame award and the sooner he comes back to regular wrestling, the better…at least according to most of the people in attendance tonight. Joe bolts towards the ring and takes a running jump onto the apron, before raising his arms in the air again. After another impressive crowd reaction, Joe climbs into the ring and looks at Johnny Cox.
Johnny Cox: Ladies and gentlemen, weighing 225lbs…he’s a former BWA World Champion…Superstaaaaaaar Joooooooe!
Franny: These fans can’t get enough of Joe. He’s like oxygen to a dying soldier.
Tony: You’re a nerd.
With everyone in the ring, the bell rings for the start of the match and there’s a huge gasp of anticipation as nobody really knows what to expect. James Tsunami promised to give it his all and he’s the first to make a move, locking up with Davidson with a big collar-and-elbow tie-up. The pair is fairly evenly matched, so there’s a deadlock as both men strain for an advantage, before James breaks it quickly and sends Davidson flying with an arm drag. Davidson’s quickly up to his feet, but he’s floored again, this time by a brilliant dropkick. Superstar Joe watches it all happen and decides not to intervene yet. Davidson gets back up and backs off, resigning himself to defeat in the opening exchange. At least everyone now knows that James Tsunami’s not here simply to make up the numbers.
James Tsunami approaches Davidson again, but this time he’s caught off guard by Superstar Joe, who chooses this moment to pounce and grabs James by the head, before producing a quick snap suplex. As soon as Superstar Joe stands up, he’s grabbed from behind by Davidson, who’s very rapid in his delivery of a release German suplex that prompts some applause from the crowd, who probably wouldn’t be cheering aside from the fact that Davidson’s given so much to the BWA in the past year. Clearly this Wembley audience is very supportive of everyone in this match and shows it by cheering even the most unappreciative of wrestlers. Davidson gets to his feet and picks James Tsunami off the canvas, but is surprised by Tsunami, who hits him with three hard rights. However, when he charges at Davidson, he’s caught and immediately hit with a quick-fire belly-to-belly suplex. Davidson’s on form now and it doesn’t seem as if anything can stop him.
Franny: Brilliant! In the space of just a few seconds, we saw three suplexes of different styles. That just shows you the creativity and varied move list that blesses our Hall of Fame entrants. It truly is marvellous.
Tony: Davidson’s move list is the best though. He did TWO suplexes.
Franny: Thanks for that.
Davidson is the only man standing at the moment and he’s milking it by doing a little strut. This isn’t taken very kindly to by Superstar Joe, who gets himself to his feet and walks up to the BWA legend, before applying a strong headlock and driving his opponent into the corner. James Tsunami also gets to his feet and walks over to the corner. Superstar Joe climbs onto the first turnbuckle and clubs down onto Davidson’s neck. However, Davidson’s surprised by James Tsunami, who lifts him into the air, onto his shoulders. Now Davidson’s very much stranded and starts to worry when Joe ascends to the top turnbuckle. James struggles to hold the weight of Davidson on his shoulders, but he doesn’t have to keep him up there too long … … flying clothesline! Davidson falls, Tsunami falls and Joe also lands in a heap. The crowd goes wild for the high flying move and there’s a standing ovation.
Franny: Wow, train wreck!
Tony: I’m sure that’s an illegal move. You shouldn’t be allowed to double team a man in a triple threat match. It’s not fair, dammit!
Franny: Don’t be ridiculous. It was a perfectly crafted move and you know it.
Superstar Joe and James Tsunami get to their feet at about the same time, which leads to a stare down before Joe throws the first punch. James reels back against the ropes and Joe whips him hard against the opposite set … … spinning heel kick! Joe hits the ground hard and James Tsunami suddenly finds himself with all the momentum. James picks Joe up and lands a big chop across his chest. This is followed by another one and a third. Soon there’s a big red mark and Joe appears to be in some discomfort. James keeps up his advantage by whipping him hard across the ring and into the far turnbuckle, but before he can make the most of the situation, Davidson gets to his feet, hits a dubious below the belt kick and whips Tsunami into the same turnbuckle … CRACK! Tsunami and Joe collide in a mesh of human bodies and both men fall to the canvas as Davidson looks pretty pleased with himself.
The returning Davidson waits for a few seconds as James Tsunami rolls out of the ring and Superstar Joe pulls himself back up into the turnbuckle. Davidson then signals for something and charges at his opponent, connecting with a strong shoulder to the man’s stomach. Superstar Joe staggers out of the corner and Davidson hops onto the second turnbuckle, before drilling Joe’s head into the canvas, almost knocking him clean out. James watches all of this from the outside, but Davidson sees him and comes off the far ropes, heading straight for the former Television Champion. James Tsunami looks a little shocked and seems to panic. Davidson leaps into the air, but at exactly the same time, Tsunami slides back into the ring, leaving nothing but padded concrete to break the adventurous Davidson’s fall. Immediately, James rolls Superstar Joe over and calls for the ref to make the count.
1 … … 2 … … .. .. .. .. .. NO! Superstar Joe lifts a shoulder up and James curses himself.
Franny: So close! Great bluff by James Tsunami to leave King Davidson hitting nothing but floor.
Tony: What a crock of bull! King Davidson was duped! He was DUPED!
Franny: He was played perfectly, Tony. He was outsmarted, outthought and outfoxed by James Tsunami.
With Davidson still feeling the effects of a hard fall and Superstar Joe having his energy sapped by Davidson’s excellent move, it’s only James Tsunami who seems to have full control of his body at the moment. He gets slowly to his feet and uses his experience to give Superstar Joe no time whatsoever to recover from the earlier move, applying a perfect crippler crossface, leaving Joe shouting out in pain. James wrenches back on Joe’s neck and it’s only through the grace of God that Joe has enough about him to stretch and grab onto the bottom rope. Showing the utmost respect for his opponent, James lets go almost immediately and backs off, giving Joe room to recover. However, as he backs off, he doesn’t notice the rather menacing figure of King Davidson standing behind him, a little roughed up after the heavy fall. James continues to back up, right until he bumps into Davidson. Immediately, James turns around, but Davidson scoops him up and hits a massive spinebuster! Without wasting a second, Davidson covers Tsunami.
1 … … 2 … … .. .. .. .. .. Kick out! Just in the nick of time.
Annoyed that he didn’t get the three count, Davidson slaps the mat and growls to himself. The former Television Champion (…Wow, lots of them) stands up and looks with anger at James Tsunami, who breathes heavily and tries to regain his composure. However, it’s Superstar Joe who gets back to his feet and Davidson’s eyes are cast upon him. Joe walks a little gingerly and isn’t helped when Davidson lands a wicked right hand. Joe stumbles back against the ropes and Davidson runs at him, but the biggest fan favourite in BWA’s history is ready for it and low bridges the rope, leaving nothing but cold, hard floor for Davidson again. The man’s having very little luck actually staying in the ring at the moment. Joe smiles at his ingenuity and walks over to James Tsunami, who’s just about getting back to his feet. Joe grabs him by the head and pulls him into the middle of the ring, before hooking his arm around James’ head, leading to loud cheers from the audience. However, he can’t execute the move because Tsunami lands a hard knee to Joe’s stomach. Before Joe can react, Tsunami hooks his leg and his head, before landing a brilliant fisherman’s suplex. Immediately, the referee makes the count.
1 … … 2 … .. .. .. .. .. .. Davidson breaks up the count!
Tony: That man can fly! Did you see him leap across the ring to break up that count? Franny, he should win the match on the basis of that move alone.
Franny: What an interesting theory, Tony. I disagree entirely, but I have to applaud the theory.
Tony: That’s why I’m running for Mayor of London.
Franny: God help us all.
James Tsunami looks across at Davidson, who gives a little smile after breaking up the pin fall. Superstar Joe looks like he’s about out of it. James gets to his feet, feeling thoroughly screwed over by Davidson. He pushes Davidson in the chest and shouts in his face. Tsunami clearly thinks that he should’ve picked up the victory here, but clearly Davidson’s not a subscriber to James’ theory. James strikes Davidson with a hard right hand, sending the FWA superstar backwards. Davidson blinks hard and looks back at James, before smiling. Then, like a flash, Davidson delivers a kick that lands WAY below the belt. Tsunami bends over double and Davidson puts James’ head between his legs, before lifting him into a powerbomb position…well…not quite.
Tony: ROYAL FLUSH!
Franny: I think it’s called The Encore now…
Tony: Pfft…I don’t care. It’s wicked!
Davidson gets James Tsunami into position … HE HITS IT! However, before he can make the cover, Superstar Joe grabs Davidson by the hair and pulls him back to his feet. Davidson swings a punch at Joe’s head, but the former World Champion blocks the move and lands a kick as the crowd cheers. They know what’s coming … … … SUPERSTAR DDT!! The crowd roars with joy as Superstar Joe delivers his patented DDT. Immediately, Joe covers Davidson near the ropes.
1 … … 2 … … .. .. .. .. .. .. 3!! Superstar Joe is victorious!
Franny: What a victory by Superstar Joe! He’s lost none of his edge.
Tony: Hmm…I guess I can give him that one. I think Davidson was carrying an injury into this match.
Franny: I think you’re talking rubbish, Tony. Congratulations to Superstar Joe. You have to wonder what’s next for the brilliant fighter.
Johnny Cox: Here is your winner …… Superstaaaaaaaaaar Joooooooooe!
Superstar Joe gets up and immediately darts towards the nearest turnbuckle, climbing onto the second rung and thrusting his arms in the air. The crowd cheers wildly as Davidson rolls out of the ring, disgusted with himself. Joe jumps back into the middle of the ring and looks square in the eyes of James Tsunami, who doesn’t look too happy at losing this one. The audience quietens down as the two Hall of Fame entrants look square into each other’s eyes. After a little pause, James Tsunami offers his hand to Superstar Joe, who smiles and shakes it warmly, before the pair embraces for all to see. James breaks from the handshake and climbs out of the ring, leaving Superstar Joe alone.
Suddenly theres a large noise from the crowd…
Franny: Wha… Whats this?!
Tony: THAT FWA GUY!
Franny: DAMIEN COLLINS!
Collins slides into the ring from the Commentary table side, whilst Joe looks at the rampway… Damien taps on Joes shoulder… Joe swings round…. "DC DROP!!"… NAILED IT!
Tony: AHHH!!!
Franny: Damien Collins nailed it!... Damien Collins.. from.. F…W…A!!
Tony: Those Bastards!!
Damien has disappeared instantly, running through the crowd at a lightning pace. Joe is layed out in the middle of the ring, quickly helped by a couple of Referees. Here we fade, and go to a Commercial break.
