So the debut of the one known as Dakota isn’t too far off. Well, it sort of is, but then again it’s not. Oh well! The point is, it’s in the next week and he was all ready for his match. After days of anticipation that couldn’t keep him sit still and nights of interrupted sleep, bothered by his own conscious curiosity, he finally was told who his opponent would be in his first match in APW history. When he found out, he nodded his head and seemed to be rather okay with who he was booked against. But inside, within, he was furious and felt extremely insulted.
He’s not royal when it comes to this sport, nor is he the most amazing wrestler you’ve ever seen – but he’s never lost a beat since first lacing up his boots and he’s almost always done his best. He has great admiration for those who wrestled longer than him and he’s also thanked them for spending time in their life with him in that ring. Ten-minutes, twenty-minutes, thirty-minutes, forty-minutes, fifty-minutes or sixty-minutes. He’s wrestled a long, long time with some guys and his matches garnered praise among the internet wrestling community and even the most bashful critics.
He takes this sport just as serious as the next guy, whoever he may be, and his list of opponents runs long. Victory isn’t always something he walks out with in an event, but the honest truth is he isn’t always looking for a victory. Most of the time, if not all the time, he’s looking for a match that he’s more than happy to say he wrestled in. In British Wrestling Alliance from 2004 to 2006, the names of Benjamin Stephens, Superstar Joe and James Tsunami were always seen on the card next to his in a singles match-up. He had plenty of scuffles with those three men who he admires more than you would imagine. They’re idols to him, they’re role-models to him and they’re everything he wants to become. Given, they’re a year or two younger than him, but he learned so much from them that it would be insane not to respect them.
Expecting to be put up against somebody who matched him evenly in almost every single wrestling department imaginable, Dakota was unfortunately let down when it comes to his first match here in APW. He expected so much more, something that would make him sweat bullets that come out plenty, creating pools of perspiration so corrosive that they ate at the canvas mat. In his opinion, this week where he debuts and unveils his wrestling abilities so old to him but so fresh to others, the match isn’t something he’s going to look forward to. Maybe he got booked on the wrong week, he figures. Maybe something wasn’t right in the head office where they decided that Dakota put against this guy was a good decision based on his background. Surely a technical mat wrestler and a hardcore brawling thug will work out fine, huh? You’d have to be kidding me if you actually agreed with the sarcasm so blatantly obvious.
Opening up in a child’s park, it’s night-time. The gentle breeze of the night-time winter wind cradles the swing-sets back and forth, side to side. The see-saws sit still as the weight of one seat keeps it in one steady position. Sitting on the top of a picnic table, Dakota keeps himself warm by blowing into his hands, cupped around his hand. After awhile, he takes a breath and speaks.
Dakota: “On the sixteenth of February, the year two-thousand and nine, I make my debut in Action Packed Wrestling. There are several words that I can use to describe my feeling going into my debut match but I’ll spare the details, and save my time on something that doesn’t matter, by summing it up in one: irate. Yeah, you got that right. I’m not too pleased about how I’m being introduced into this company at all, in fact, I find it insulting and embarrassing to be degraded like this considering how big of a name I was in other places that had greener grass.”
Most wrestlers that come from other territory, such as from TNA to WWE, aren’t given huge roles automatically. However in Dakota’s career, things were a tad bit different. Since the companies he worked for were so relatively close and had the same roster being juggled back and forth for many and many years, they knew where each wrestler stood and where they deserved to be when they were booked. Also, they were quite aware how easy it was for one to be lured away.
Dakota: “Yeah, maybe I don’t deserve a higher spot on the card against a better choice of opponent at the moment, but then again maybe APW doesn’t deserve to have me here, gracing their ring with my presence and talent. Has the owner even done a background check on me to see where I stood in past federations? Either he’s slack and hasn’t done his job, oblivious to my repute, or he’s afraid that I’ll completely obliterate his top names in such short time and take over like I plan to. It’s not that Lynch isn’t respected in my eyes; by the way, I’ll let it be known that I have absolute no positive opinion for thugs such as him.”
Most thugs in the present tense are looked down upon by millions and millions of people. For every drop of water there is in the ocean, there’s a bucket of hate ready to be thrown on thugs to soak them with the rage that others are feeling. They’re a blemish to society with nothing to offer, they take more than what they can give. There’s no use in them, rhymes and bullets don’t make the world go round. Sorry, kids!
Dakota: “The lifestyle they live is questionable at best and their motivation is quite dull, not to mention their intelligence, a word that I’ll use loosely when it comes to them. When they meet a problem head-on, rather than try to solve it like a regular human being would, they pull out a handgun and shoot the shit out of it. And Lynch, don’t even try to deny this, you can’t solve any problem if your life depended on it. How do I know this? According to your APW profile, you dropped out of school, so you likely can’t and won’t amount to much.”
Grinning from ear to ear, Dakota knows he insulted Lynch quite a bit with that sentence that wasn’t so rude. He doesn’t mind being honest, or backing up his facts with proof. While he doesn’t need to inflict pain on others to prove his point that is more valuable than some fool from Compton, he would like to just so he can put them in their place.
Dakota: “Even though I personally haven’t met you yet, I know for a fact I don’t like you and I never want to speak to you in my life. Frankly, you’re a disgrace to your sport if you think you’re going to go far attacking people with weapons. That also backs up my claim that you can’t solve problems. When you’re in a predicament in a match, what will be your way out? Option number one: you try to outsmart and outlast your opponent, think of a way to bring them to their knees and make them submit to your force of power. Or you choose the easy way out, option number two: grab anything, everything and swing it at their face.”
Letting out a sigh, he’s disappointed knowing that the sport of wrestling is unfortunately tarnished by some hipster morons that think that they would get a bigger pay check by sacrificing their bodies over something so ridiculous. Sure, a legacy and a championship are what you’re looking for, but if you have to nearly kill yourself before you have that chance, it’s a shame and you’re not honest to the sport. Not to mention you’re selling out.
Dakota: “Let me tell you this: Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Bret Hart or Kurt Angle never went far or anywhere in their careers by using a weapon that knocks somebody out flat on their back each and every night. They had wrestling skills, which unfortunately you seem to be missing. Thankfully, here’s the good news, I am walking in the same path that they are and I’m making a name for myself. Clearly I don’t give a shit about anything positive in your life, the best thing that could have happened to you was perhaps get shot and exit your poor excuse of living to the fullest. Too bad.”
Careless and cold are two of a few words that can sum of Dakota extremely well. He’s been known to offend people and he’s been known to do it on purpose. He wants to infuriate people and make them uncomfortable with him. If you have any feelings of murder directed at this man: the objective is complete and the mission will soon be accomplished.
Dakota: “Now, it’s even worse that I have to fight somebody such as you. That goes against everything I’ve been for the past five and a half years of my career. The big matches I’ve wrestled in the years of 2005, 2006 and 2007 are irrelevant here in APW, but for Christ’s sake, at least the wrestlers I’ve fought out of the main-event scene had some credibility to them and didn’t bring down my anticipation on wrestling them all thanks to their interesting past and original lifestyle. It’s degrading, really, that I have to fight a wrestler of your style. If the chairman of the boards took the time out of his day to see how I wrestle, he would find a suitable opponent, one that I could probably steal the show with and even offer a handshake if a good match-up was delivered.”
There’s not many wrestlers out there that he actually wants to give a handshake to, but if they prove to him that they’re good wrestlers and even have him doubting himself every now and then, he’ll be more than happy to give his respect and continue their history by making history repeat itself some time later. Ben. Joe. James. History repeated many times in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 with those three.
Dakota: “Seeing you as my opponent, Jamal Jesse Jackson, makes me feel worthless and hopeless, not to mention utterly useless. I could be used so much better; it’s a fact – not an opinion! But then again, maybe... just maybe... I’m being a little too harsh on you. If by some divine miracle you’re able to apply a headlock – firm or loose, it really doesn’t matter – and choke some air out of me, I might look you in the eye during our match and even impress you with something if you’re worth the energy. If not, don’t expect me to pull of my best. That’s something I’m not afraid to say, because only the best are worth my best. You’re below the worst, so that’s not saying much for you, Jackshit!”
He’s really not liking the fact that he’s going against Jackson at all, and even though he’s being harsh, who can blame him? He’s obviously come from a different background in wrestling where things were different, he’s put on five-star matches and stolen shows more than once. This feels like an insult to his intelligence and he doesn’t know how to react except with negativity.
Dakota: “The only thing that keeps me remotely happy about this match is that it isn’t booked in your favour. You see, it isn’t a hardcore match or extreme rules, whatever the Hell it’s called here – so I’m satisfied for the time being. I don’t have to see you grabbing hold of a weapon to use on me. I’m not a fan of you garbage men, so any trash you want to put on me you can think twice or else I’ll kick your head in so that you will never think again. I was trained on technical and submissive wrestling; I was taught how to use every single move of mine appropriately and effectively.”
With an arsenal of technical and submissive moves that are ready to leave fans asking for more, Dakota is more than ready to open up the box and let it all out for people to see. Whether it’s a house show, television or a pay per view – booked or impromptu – he’ll use anything at the right moment or time.
Dakota: “I’ve been underestimated plenty of times in the past, and I’m damn sure that I will be in the future. In a way, that’s a good thing because it gives others the vision to see what I really am like in the ring rather than just going in there and assuming the worst from me. The big boys of this company might not think much of me right now, but when they witness me put on a wrestling clinic over the next month or two, given I’m booked against better talent the next few times, they’ll have a newfound respect for me and the admiration for the Feature Presentation will be apparent and clear to see for miles away.”
The way he’s dreaming up his future is quite humorous since some of it might never come true, but that’s only an assumption we can make right now. Just like he can only assume he will be at the top of this federation soon enough. But it might happen, who really knows.
Dakota: “I have absolutely no problem being an opener for this week’s Monday Night Overdrive one bit. A match is a match, but an opponent is something more. How I can prove my best against him is beyond me, but I’ll have plenty more opportunities in the future to show off anything and everything I possibly can. Maybe I’ll swoon the viewers and impress them, have them beg to the owner that I be booked weekly, I am going to be adored by your fans, APW. Oh sure, they’ll hate me for my potent smugness and anything else, but they won’t deny that they’re in awe with my spectacular showings.”
And there’s the potent smugness that he talks about. He’ll more than likely have a few fans gain interest in him and start to enjoy his wrestling style, but they won’t be in awe with his showing and it won’t be spectacular each and every week unless his competition is serious and intimidating. At this point, he doesn’t know where each wrestler ranks in the federation. It’s all a matter of going up against them and finding out himself.
Dakota: “There’s a very clear and obvious reason why I’ve been the Feature Presentation for the past four years, there’s a very clear and obvious reason why I’ve been wrestling for the past four years. I’m steady, I’m reliable... I am an evident icon and a continuous headliner. When you see more fans being drawn to the arena, when you see more shows being sold out, when more of your merchandise is bought, when more sponsors offer their partnership and when the ratings are soaring higher than you could ever imagine – you can thank me. Conceit? Cockiness? Nonsense, it’s confidence! I’m being optimistic; I’ve seen it happen in the past when it came to me and nobody gave me credit where it was due, so if anything is to happen after my debut here, you can look back at this and see where everything went right.”
Getting under the skin is probably something he’s doing with a lot of APW’s talent right now. It wouldn’t surprise him in the least bit if there was a line of superstars, anxious and ready to beat him to a bloody pulp. Folks, ready yourselves for the biggest nuisance in this company’s history.

In a few months time, you’ll look back on this day and as will everybody else and tell themselves “he’s come a long way in such short time,” and look at the top of the proverbial mountain of this sport where I stand, illuminating like a star. Everybody else, though, was at an elevation so high that it seemed impossible to get any lower – until they realized they were just comets, who plummeted to the ground and buried themselves six-feet deep.”
Looking up into the sky, the stars shine and illuminate, casting light down on the city of Des Moines, Illinois along with the moon. As the cameras zoom into the sky, a shooting star flies on by and the cameras fade to black. In less than a week, the match that proves to the whole roster, company and portion of the wrestling world that hasn’t heard of Dakota how he is as a professional wrestler. Rest assured, you will not be let down.
